Clifton City Park

United States / Clifton, Texas
Location ID: #10102844

Clifton City Park is located on Riverside Drive and borders the Bosque River, extending north and south from FM 219. “Bosque” means “wooded,” and Clifton City Park is lined with abundant mature, native trees, especially pecan. The park retains portions of the original native stone structures built in 1933-1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. A historical marker featuring the Old Mill is located near the new dam on the Bosque River. City Park features an open-air gazebo, picnic areas, tennis and basketball courts, the sites of the original Clifton Cub football and baseball fields, and a large building originally built by the National Guard as an armory. Also located within the park’s borders, situated near the 1884 Whipple Truss Bridge, is the only remaining structure from the original town site, Cliff Town, established in 1852.
