Adolph A. Erhard House

United States / Bastrop, Texas
Location ID: #10159339

The Adolph A. Erhard house is situated on a 3/4 acre lot in downtown historic Bastrop, and was built in 1870 in the Italianate style which was popular in Europe at the time. The front doors are the original hand-carved wooden doors with the original etched glass panels, and the silver knobs and doorbell are also original to the house. The long-leaf pine floors are original, as are the front stairs and railings. The interior rooms are large and open with high ceilings---the downstairs ceilings are 12' high and the upstairs ceilings are 11' high. Numerous 10' tall windows afford a great deal of natural light and views to the property. Transom windows top all of the 8' tall interior doors.

The property includes a 600 square foot guest house built to harmonize with the main home, a 2-car garage and a full working shop, a storage shed, a studio, and a playhouse. The professionally landscaped yard includes a rose garden surrounding a working fountain, a rose-covered pergola, a wisteria arbor, raised cedar flower and vegetable beds, a large circular concrete patio, and brick ovens, as well as concrete pathways connecting the outdoor spaces. The concrete walks and patio are edged with soldiered brick which was recovered from the property's original walkways. The driveway to the garage and shop is accessed from a side street to the back of the property, and affords lots of space for parking, deliveries, and storage. This also means the entire front of the property offers an uninterrupted view showcasing the stately front of the home and its well-maintained and thoughtful landscaping.
