McKellar House
United States / Forney, Texas
Location ID: #10184229
Originally built in 1873 by landowner and merchant John Alexander McKellar (1813-1875), this house was remodeled to its current Neoclassical appearance by his son, B. Yancy McKellar (1859-1916) about 1902. Features of the colonial revival structure include two-story giant order columns with modified Ionic capitals on the north and west facades, stained glass windows, and a wraparound porch. The home remained in the McKellar family until 1977. This beautiful property makes for a great setting.
The McKellar Home sits on 3 acres of land within 1/4 mile of the historic downtown street of Forney. The home is over 5000 sf with amazing stain glass, fireplaces, and inlaid wood borders on lower level floors.
Two sets of pocket doors separate the parlor and library from the hallway. The amazing feature of the home is that it has remained untouched by renovations aside from the kitchen.
There is a pool and gazebo on the grounds. A renovated pool house is attached to the garage in a beach theme.
