Brick Streets of Miles
United States / Miles, Texas
Location ID: #10187128
In 1926, the residents of Miles passed a bond election to pave its streets. After a contract was awarded, an average of 70 to 75 bricks were laid side by side across the streets in straight lines. The bricks remain today and start as one enters downtown over the railroad tracks and continues three blocks along Robinson Street to 3rd Street. There also are bricks on either side of Robinson Street for a block going down West 1st, East 1st, West 2nd and East 2nd Streets. Robinson Street is also Farm-to-Market 1692 and maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation. West 1st, East 1st, West 2nd and East 2nd Streets are owned and maintained by the City of Miles. Photos are of Robinson Street, East 1st & 2nd Streets, West 1 & 2nd Streets.
