Location ID: #10264903
Located north of Albany, TX, the Matthews-Lambshead Ranch is a family owned and operated cattle ranch since the late 1800s. With 13 miles of the Clear Fork of the Brazos running through, the old Butterfield Stagecoach Mail Line trail, and abundant wildlife, the 40,000 acre ranch is a beautiful representation of the Texas countryside. The stories and history are written in many books: Interwoven, Lambshead Before Interwoven, Lambshead Legacy, True Tails of the Frontier, Watkins Reynolds Matthews: A Biography, Watt Matthews of Lambshead, and many more. Those stories and texts are still able to be seen today in the original buildings, family cemetery, cattle herd, and family interactions that preserve the history for generations to come. Including stories of ancestors George T. and William D. Reynolds fighting Commanche Indians, Gen Robert E. Lee camping on the river with his unit, and the firsthand pioneer experiences of Sallie Reynolds Matthews.
