Description:In 1935, the first theatre in Austin specifically designed to screen movies was built – the State Theatre. It was a conversion of an existing building to the plans of architect W. Scott Dunne, and the fourth of the Interstate Circuit’s Austin Theatres (along with the Paramount Theatre, Queen Theatre and Capitol Theatre). It opened on Christmas Day with “The Bride Comes Home,” a comedy with Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray.
