Description:Nestled in the heart of Gonzales, Texas, The Alcalde Hotel has stood as a beacon of hospitality and history since its opening nearly a century ago. The Alcalde Hotel, a boutique hotel with 18 uniquely designed rooms, has been a cherished part of our community since its construction in 1926 by Arif Droupy. Originally intended to be a five-story building, construction challenges arose when the materials for the fourth and fifth floors were stolen not once but three times, resulting in the decision to complete the hotel as a three-story structure. Initially boasting 41 rooms with shared showers at the end of the hall, the hotel has undergone several renovations over the decades, with the most significant occurring in 2016. Today, the hotel features 18 rooms while maintaining its original floors and ceilings, preserving its historic charm. Elvis Presley himself found comfort in our walls—not once, but twice—during his rise to stardom, leaving behind an echo of music and charm that lingers in our halls. And who could forget the infamous escape of Bonnie and Clyde, leaping from our second-story window to evade capture? Their daring flight forever etched into our folklore and film (Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway). As we approach our 100th anniversary in 2026, The Alcalde Hotel continues to honor its storied past while looking boldly to the future.
