Description:The Slover-Rogers Cottage, a 1909 Victorian-style house, is owned and operated by the Alvin Museum Society. The cottage was crafted over an eight-year period by a Civil War veteran to show his skills in Victorian construction, with gingerbread, two turrets, massive pocket doors, and a bow knot fence. It even has a combination outhouse and library. Slover initially built a three-room house and gradually added more rooms until 1909, stopping with a sunroom. The completed building featured seven rooms and bath, 10½-foot ceilings and two, three-paneled sliding doors. The Victorian Queen Anne building is filled with special touches. Slover's elaborate trim work can be found on window boxes, closets and other areas. The historical society now has the jigsaw he used, along with a silver pump organ Slover received from his grandfather.
