Description:
Weatherby Hall was built in 1929 as a Ford Dealership. It closed in the 1960's and the Weatherby family gave the building to the city for use as a fire hall and community center. After the fire department constructed its own building in the 1990's, it became solely a community center for events such as anniversary and birthday parties and wedding receptions. Weatherby Hall is 50' wide by 200' in length. The front part (50' x 40') has a kitchen, central heat and cooling and a tiled floor, although a few tiles are missing. The back section is 50' x 40' and has restrooms and a concrete floor. It has ceiling fans but it does not have heat and cooling. The table carts and chair racks are stored on one side. Its stamped ceiling is original and there is a skylight that has been painted over. There are double doors between the front and back sections that can be closed. The remaining part of the hall was walled off by the city and given to the Miles Water Department for storage and offices. Weatherby Hall fronts West 1st Street with its historic 1926 bricks. Directly across is a 1930's former Gulf Station. On one side is a lot owned by Sklenarik's Meat Market, which has some of its equipment and storage against the side of the wall. Next to the lot is the Memorial Garden, owned by the Miles Preservation Authority (MPA), a local historical group. On the other side of the hall is Groves Street, but it is not heavily travelled. Across is a park owned by the MPA. Behind the hall is the Miles Young Farmers Complex, which is also used for community events and the annual livestock show. Weatherby Hall is just down from Robinson Street and downtown Miles.
